Obituary:

Robert D. Eastman, 77, died January 31, 2010 at Greenbriar Terrace Healthcare Facility in Nashua.

He was born in Newton, Mass on June 11, 1932, a son of the late Frederic and Mildred (Cooper) Eastman.

On September 14, 1957 he married his life’s love, Lucinda Anne “Cindy” Likins.

Robert was an 11-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, having reached the rank of Lieutenant by the time of his discharge in 1966. He earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University in Boston. Following his distinguished military service, Robert worked for Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge, MA for 16 years, graduated to the status of corporate officer with several other companies around the country, and completed the final 15 years of his professional life with Nashua Corporation, where he worked as an Engineer, Corporate Manager and head of OSHA Safety Compliance. He retired in 1994.

For more than 30 years he assisted and supported his daughter, Alison, as she built and ran an equestrian training school and farm in Hollis. He was very well liked throughout the equestrian community and the community at large by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Robert, known as "Bob" to all who knew him, was a particularly considerate individual, reflecting a kind of quiet heroism. He was extremely handy about his home and property, and took great joy in his steady productiveness in deference to the needs of the growing family he loved. Bob seemed always to naturally put others ahead of himself. He was, most certainly, one of the “good guys”.

He was predeceased by two older brothers, Frederic Eastman, and Cooper Eastman.

Along with his wife of 52 years, Lucinda “Cindy” Eastman of Hollis, survivors include a son, Eric Robert Eastman of Nashua, NH; two daughters and son-in-laws, Elizabeth D. and Todd Zingales of Hollis, NH, and Alison Eastman-Lawler and Shawn Lawler of Mason, NH; Six grandchildren, Miriam Rose, Emily Anne, and Aidan Robert Eastman, and Ryan, Connor, and Adam Zingales. Robert is also survived by a sister-in-law, Bertha Eastman of Newtonville, MA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
